Happy Valentine’s Day! Hoping that you and your special person are making the most of this day of romance, and if you are sans partner, treat yourself to something distinct.
Today started just like any other, going from bad to worse. As usual, my glum demeanor carried over from the night before, like it has so many times, leaving little chance for a cheery day. Late this morning our conversation revealed that in all our years together, I never made any effort to make him feel important or loved on Valentine’s Day, birthdays, or holidays, while he has consistently done it for me. It started to click in my head as to why this persists and that I need to try the better choices he has offered. I didn’t choose many of them, but I hope I embarked on a few improved behaviors. I am hoping if I change my attitude from dismissive or defeat to one that is more proactive, it will be infectiously positive. As a Hail Mary to try to save a portion of the day, I made dark chocolate mousse for dessert tonight. When the chocolate started to separate, I asked for help to fix it and his suggestion of using beaters to re-emulsify worked very well. I’ll let you know how it tastes.
For too long, I have done things on my own without thought that it would have a better result if we did it together. He has tried for years to get me to realize that and it might finally be sinking in. I am sitting alongside him while writing this post. This gives me more immediate feedback, sparks conversation, and helps me write a blog post so much faster. This is a much better way of doing it and I look forward to continuing this way.
We moved this week from Quartzsite to the BLM land at the south entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. We have a nice space at the top of a small knoll that fits both our motorhome and our friends. We have been enjoying their company (and their dogs). Chilling around the campfire one night was a welcome change for us and one we hope to repeat if this darn wind ever subsides again. The fiery sunset above the motorhomes the first night was nothing short of spectacular.

am now realizing it has been 83 days since my last post; that is a new record, and not a good one. I intend on posting at least two times a week, setting an attainable goal that I aim to exceed. This Valentine’s Day, I am committing to being the partner I should have been all along and approaching things with a positive attitude.
