The sunrise we promised we would get up early to see, did not disappoint. While sipping on our morning cup of coffee, the sun began to brighten the sky. At first it was only the sliver of light, it then spread in pastel colors among the cottonball-like clouds. We thought it was done, and then it finally burst into bright red, orange, and yellow colors that reflected off everything in all four directions. It was most certainly a highlight of the day.

The clouds lingered all morning, and coupled with some showers it could have set a sour mood. We went ahead with our plans to drive around the south edge of Flaming Gorge to see some of the overlooks and other sights. We would not let the weather deter us today. With good spirits intact, we ventured forth. It was a full day, as there are so many fantastic views to be seen here. At least I think they are fantastic! A couple of highlights would be the views from the Red Canyon Overlook and the drive through Sheep Creek Canyon. The colors and shapes of the rock formations, coupled with the waters of the reservoir, and the trees clinging anywhere they could get a foothold, feels powerful.

As the day progressed, the clouds gradually gave way to the sun, bathing us in warmth and chasing away the chill of the early morning. The sun also enhanced the colors of red and yellow in the rocks and the blue of the lake. We made it back to the RV in time to enjoy a few moments lounging in the late afternoon sun before the clouds began to reassert themselves, eventually opening up and raining off and on all evening. It’s raining again as I type this.

This rain tonight and the forecast for more tomorrow have us indecisive about plans for tomorrow. We will have to find a project to work on, but can we be outside or must we stay in. We decided on chicken and potato tacos for dinner along the way home. They were delicious, but maybe too heavy on the spices. Who knows, we will probably find out later if they were too spicy. We also made a bet on who could guess closest to what percentage the batteries were charged up to today while we were gone. I owe Tom a back massage.

Tom has a word that keeps him motivated, and he suggested tonight that I should have one too. I am working on what mine should be. He also suggested having a song could help. I will find one of those too, since these are both great ideas. We are better as a team.

I am grateful we did not let the rain dampen our day or ruin our adventure, allowing us to share in some memorable views. We are not going to let the fact that the internet is still not working here bother us. It has been one of the better days lately. Thank you, Tom! We are seeing angels and doves in the clouds, while the rocky devil snorts alongside.
