Mural Scavenger Hunt

Before leaving Minot, I was running some errands so that TJ could head to the next location to ensure that we could get a camping spot there. He had seen an article about a downtown mural project that had been done and said that I should check it out before leaving town. I am glad he did as they proved to be both fun and interesting. I wish TJ could have joined me for the scavenger hunt that ensued as he would have enjoyed seeing them too, but he was in the motorhome and it would have been too difficult to find parking. It was a little bit of a challenge to try to find them in a town with which I am not familiar, and TJ usually has an extra sense about finding things like these.

Armed with only a street map showing the location of each mural I set out on foot hoping to find them all. Once I got my bearings in the downtown area I was able to find several of them. Most were found in alleys, but some are right out on the front of the buildings. A few seemed to elude me, but after resting on a bench with the map for a moment, I sorted out the direction I needed to go to find the ones I had not yet seen. It is unfortunate that some of the murals were lost when the buildings they had been painted on were razed. I did read, however, that they will be painting new ones this summer.

The murals each had different character to them. Some were like graffiti or street art, while others were portraits or figures. Still others were abstract art or they advertised a business.
