Getting Trashed

Yesterday, Al saw a post on Facebook asking for assistance in cleaning up several messes at a BLM campground. We were only one hundred miles away, and had planned on actually staying at that very campground anyway, so we decided to come here a day early and lend a hand.

Today, we spent most of the daylight hours bagging trash, getting it ready to take to the dump. Most of it looked like it had been accruing for several months or more, but in total, there were around six areas that we cleared of debris. The car has no wheels on it, however the rangers will do their process to have it removed.

We took a break from the mid-day heat to get lunch (Thank you, Mark!), then drove around deeper into this BLM (Bureau of Land Management) area. We were looking for the labyrinth, and happened upon some white rocks spelling out “The Word Of God is Leave No Trace” and found it very appropriate for our day. We then went back to cleaning up more junk until the sun went down. Three people gathered up all of this crap. It will all be hauled off to the dump tomorrow. The “after” pictures don’t look so bad either... I think we made quite a difference.

While we may feel a bit achy and have a few scratches from pulling stuff from thorny bushes, we also feel very accomplished with our efforts. One thing I can say for sure: I felt SO much better after taking a shower tonight!
