Exercise 2024 -Week 1

January 5 - The Body... Becoming Fitter - #03-2024

THE BODY

1/6/2024

Fridays are devoted to the body, since we already did the mind and the spirit. We might talk about body parts, exercise, fitness, aches and pains, or whatever else we can improve upon physically.

Starting off, I want to know what happened to that 40 year old body from 20 years ago. Time has transformed it, and not in a good way; adding weight, losing muscle, more aches and pains, wrinkles, and slower to recover.

I want to be more fit, more active. I don’t generally believe in new years resolutions, but I resolve to have a healthier body this coming year. I started this week by doing some stretching, situps, and pushups. It was only 20 sit-ups and 10-15 pushups, but it is a start. I can tell it has been a while since I did anything like this, as there is some soreness, but not so bad that it would make me want to cease. I have to add in some more cardiovascular exercise like walking, hiking, bicycling, and maybe running. I have never liked running, but I am trying to make some changes so it could happen.

I have to be accountable to myself and to those around me, including you reading this, to make sure I stay with it. I have to admit that this week I only exercised 2 days. I want to be exercising everyday, so as a consequence for missing a day of exercise, I will add a new exercise to my routine, and do it everyday for the next month. Since I missed three days from the start of the new year, my additional workouts will be to walk or hike at least 1 mile, do 25 jumping jacks, and add 20 sit-ups.

I will be tracking some body measurements over the next months to see if I can make a difference. Eating better and exercising could help the mood too.

These are my measurements as of January 5, 2024. We will see how they change over time.

Neck: 16.125"

Chest: 43.5"

Left bicep: 13.75"

Right Bicep:13.75"

Belly: 39.25"

Waist: 37"

Hips: 41.5"

Left Thigh: 22.5"

Right Thigh: 22.75"

Left Calf: 16"

Right Calf: 16"

If anyone else is resolved to make a change like this, let me know and we can do it together.

Today, I am grateful for Jeff, who generously gave us a place to park our home for the last couple of months. I am thankful for safe travels, as we were on the roads for seven and half hours. I am thankful for Costco, and the good deals for giving us the chance to restock our shelves, but not for the oodles of people with the same idea of going there today.
