US Highway 191 is a road that travels the United States, from Canada to Mexico. It has the distinction of passing through several national parks and notable destinations along the way. We have been on this road since we turned onto it in Malta, Montana, where we left US Highway 2, to Antelope Creek, to Lewistown, and now to Bozeman/Belgrade.
Along our way we passed the Judith Gap Windfarm, which has been in operation since 2005. We stopped to see one of the blades that was damaged in construction, and subsequently placed in the town of Judith Gap, where anyone can walk around it and get a feel for the size of them. Unfortunately I missed getting a photo of the actual wind farm as we drove by it.
Driving along this route you can see the prairie, where we have spent the better part of the last 6 weeks, slowly give way to the mountains that were rising up on all sides of us. I managed to see a lone pronghorn grazing in a field full of large round hay bales. He appeared content with his meal and actually waited long enough to for me to get his photo.
Tom said the bigger hills were a little struggle, but the other drivers on the road trying to be in his space, especially on the curves, made the journey a bit more difficult. He made the best of it and we got to Belgrade safe and secure. Tom got us parked on the street just outside the gates of Floyds Truck Center. We had an appointment for the next day to get some routine maintenance completed and to check out a clunk that we have been hearing.
While waiting for our rig to be finished, Tom met Josh, from the band the Empty Pockets, who was there to get their tour van repaired and back on the road. Tom helped him work on the van a little while our RV was in the shop. We later enjoyed listening to some of their music. Josh mentioned that they do a lot of charity shows, and are touring the country.
Belgrade treated us to some great sunsets as well as night skies, just like the rest of Montana. We took advantage of being in a little bigger city, resupplied our fridge and pantries. We also made a little time for a drive around see some of the Bozeman area. It was a good, short stay there, and thankfully so, since we could not put the slides out while parked on the street, and it was feeling a little cramped inside. The girls were glad to get going so they could sprawl out a little more freely.
