We are in Yuma for a few days. It’s only 90 miles south of Quartzsite, and an easy drive down Hwy 95. We were treated to vivid wildflowers growing along the road’s edge the entire way. The oranges of Apricot Desert Mallow flagged me down first, begging for me to take its picture, but then multiple strands of yellow Coreopsis and purple Scorpion Weed soon beckoned as well. Who knew Springtime in the desert would be so colorful?

We are finally having the slide repairs completed. There is a shop here that could get us in this week and it fit in nicely for being able to finish up the work on Lynn’s van before we left Quartzsite. Most of the shops we contacted were taking appointments in April, and we want to be out exploring new areas by then. Hopefully all goes well with the repairs and it will only take a few days. We may have pushed our luck waiting this long to get the work done. When we put the slide out last night, the rear end of it did not go out all the way, slipping a cog or two on the gear. We got it back in this morning to take it to the shop, but did wonder if we’d have to drive it with the slide out, like we have heard others have done.
While the RV is getting fixed up, so is Tom. He walked across the border to Los Algodones for some dental work. There are more than 20 dental offices there catering to Americans. He has three molars that have broken at the old fillings. The strange thing is that you would think they would break eating things like nuts, toffee, or caramel, but his broke when he was eating things like a simple lettuce salad. He should have the work done in just a couple days and his teeth will be as good as new, and at a fraction of the cost. Good thing we have our passports so he can get back. It ended up taking an hour and a half to get through customs as the line was so long.
Anticipation is looking forward to something and feeling excited about what you know is going to happen. As noted above, we have two things we are anticipating in Yuma. They are exciting in different ways. It will be fantastic to have the slide working properly again, and not have to unload everything, then lift and push on it to retract. It will be especially great during storms or “howler monkey” winds so we can bring it in with the push of a button. Likewise, Tom’s dental work will make a difference for enjoying food for a long time to come.
We are staying in an AirBnB for the duration of the repairs. We found a nice, reasonably priced home in a 55+ park. It is not fancy, a little dated, and no views, but it is comfortable, clean, has a full-sized fridge to hold everything from the RV, and we can take nice long showers for a change! We will keep you posted how the repairs go, both the motorhome and the teeth!
